I think maybe you missed a point. Sheman fans are not necessarily fans of the way the tank performed. They are fans of it as modelers interested in the vehicle for different reasons. The number of variants and different configurations, the number of Allied nations that fielded them etc. All these things make it interesting for modeling. Personally I don't think it has a thing to do with the performance when it comes to modeling its about the subject and what you can do with that.

I love the Sheridan and S tank because they interest me as a modeler again I don't think they are particularly good tanks but that hasn't got a thing to do with why I want to model them. Same goes for the Sherman.

I really don't get why people obsess over performance of a vehicle in our hobby. Sure in wargames it matters I used to play a lot of 1/285th scale miniatures and we had weekly debates about the rules and the performance of all the vehicles. It was relevant there but less so for a model builder other than being of interest.
