Hi Wally,
This mantlet is an M34 one. When the direct sight telescope was fitted, replacing the rotor sight, it needed some form of protection. Best option was the M34A1 mantlet, which extended on both sides.
As an interim small slabs of armour were used on the telescope, sometimes combined with the small, pyramid like shield for the MG.
