| Subject: | Shermanaholic - Modeler's Perspective | |

Well, I've built 44 Shermans and no two are the same. I guess that alone ought to give you some idea of why so many of us love to model the Sherman. Here's a few key points to consider from a modeler's perspective:
1. Presently the Sherman has the longest active career of any tank, from 1942 to 2002 (with Chile). The T-55 will certainly surpase this in a few years. But for now that means you can model this tank though 60 years of history, more than any other.
2. The Sherman served on all continents except Antarctica! It also served with nearly all of the world's major militaries. So there's no lack of subjects to model.
3. Although most people think of the Sherman in Olive Drab, it actually has been painted in nearly every concievable camoflague. You can find it in various Desert schemes, NW Eurpopean type schemes, Winter schemes, Pacific Island schemes, and even in Blue (Lebanese Christian Militia). The truth is you'd have a hard time finding another tank with so many different paint schemes (again the T-55 being similar).
4. The Sherman had more unusual variants than nearly any other tank. The DD swimming variant. Deep wading gear. Flame thowers. Flail tanks. Mine rollers. Armored Recovery Vehicles. Bridging tanks. And on and on. So if you want variety in a collection, this is a must build tank.
5. A ridiculous number of models/conversions/decal sets exist for the modeler. Many are of very good quality. Good luck building an accurate Matilda or Soviet T-80. But you'll have no such problem with Shermans.
