I believe that Shermans are popular subjects because there are SO MANY many different types to build. As you said yourself "... there[sic] infinate[sic] variations." Look at Jim Wechsler, he has built something like 50 Shermans to date ( http://70.86.163.186/gallery/modeller/jwechsler ), that is quite an accomplishment for one type of tank.

I doubt any modeller over the age of 12 selects their subjects based on how good they were on the battlefield, that's pretty puerile. It's also a pathetic view hold of your fellow modeller.
