Hi Mike,

As you can see in this attached picture of a Comet, it is simply a steel ring. I have a couple of wartime pics of Centaurs showing the same thing I can email you as they are copyright. When I recently built a Centaur, I formed it out of a piece of paper clip bent with pliers. Some pictures show U shaped ones.

The attached pic was taken by me at Bovington last summer.
