Steve,

There is actually no such thing as "early" or "late" type Sherman tracks, with all types being seen right up til the end of WWII.

Now as far as Dragon's old M4A1 is concerned, you should know that one of the track types supppied with the kit was NOT used by the US Army. The T62 "cuff" type tracks with visible rivets on the outer face were used almost exclusively on British/Commonwealth Shermans (I know, there are exceptions, but they are rare). Hence, unless you get a different type of tracks from another source, the only suitable option for US tank are the T48 rubber chevron tracks.

This was probably by far the most common type of track anyway, at least up until December 44/January 45 when more of the steel chevron tracks began appearing as those were more effective on snowy/icy grounds.

For more information on Sherman track types, visit:

http://web.inter.nl.net/users/spoelstra/g104/track_vvss.htm

As for which type of tracks to use from the kit, it's the type seen at the bottom of this page:

Hope this helps.

Charby
