Roy's got it right, but it id happen that tankers had to fight after their vehicle was koed. There are a couple of descriptions of this in the books on Panzer Aces (2 vol. set). For a diorama, it would probably be best to show the koed vehicle to make the point clear.
There are a few decent figure sets showing German and Russian tankers fighting and defending wounded crewmates while exiting a damaged vehicle. I don't know of any sets that show the tankers going on the offensive with satchel or bundled charges, but one such incedent is described in one of the Panzer Aces books. As Roy syas, this was an emergency situation, and there's no indication that they were used as common infantry.
