I have read a book on Fallschirmjägers on Italy on WWII, and the author (FJ veteran) mentions a Tiger being blown up by its crew after firing the last round, with the crew giving the military salute to their tank.
I agree with others' opinions that a trained crew member would hardly be pressed into infantry duties, unless it was a special situation.
However, I've read that some Japanese pilots would fight as infantry soldiers on the Pacific front when they had no chance to fly their machines.
