While I don't disagree with the above postings, I would suggest they are generalisations rather than absolutes.
As we know, Luftwaffe crews were utilised on the ground when aircaft became scarce- therefore, [particularly toward the end of the war, when the Germans were calling-up old men and kids], I don't think that tank crews could afford to be that "precious" about getting their boots muddied.
The image of a tanker, arms folded, refusing to help sweep clean the narrow streets and basements of a small town, when ordered by a superior, just doesn't sit well with me- particularly if there was no direct threat to their vehicle from enemy tanks.
Besides if they would be willing to do it for a newsreel man- then why not for an officer?
Personally I don't think we can say it NEVER happened.
