I think some posters have lost sight of the original thread the rest of us were trying to respond to, and the qualifications/situations we were addressing:
"So, my question is whether this was part of the contemporary doctrine, let's say, to dismount the loaders from a Panzer Platoon to augment the infantry in certain situations."
I've seen nothing that would indicate other than, "No. When it occurred it was a matter of necessity, not doctrine."
Gazza, thanks for the sideways suggestion! Do you have a few favorite titles?
