I agree the tanks were recycled; either towed to a depot for evaluation or cut up on the spot. There is a photo series of a Panther after the Battle of the Bulge (I think) slowly, over a period of months after the war, being scrapped for its wheels and then cut up for its metal.
Maybe a diorama of the tank being cut up? "Chop shop"
