Mark,
Army Group Vistula, was under the command of General Gotthard Heinrici.
This was the Army that was the big picture in the Battle OF Berlin.
The name of the group that dealt with the Battle IN Berlin was called the Berlin Defence Area. Which was commanded by-Helmuth Weidling. This consisted of inside the Berlin Defence Area approximately 45,000 soldiers, supplemented by the police force, Hitler Youth, and 40,000 Volkssturm. At the Gates of Berlin the Germans had 100,000 soldiers and 1,200 tanks and guns. this website has a good amount of info
http://www.historyofwar.org/index.html
Go to this website and click on (Battles and Sieges) on the far top right. Then click on the letter B on the screen. Then there will be a long list. In the middle of the list is the topic-(Berlin, battle for, April – May 1945) and it gives more info on all the battle groups. Hope this helps. If there is any thing else I forgot, just ask.
cheers,
John |
