Let's see:

Africa
Sicily
Italy
NW Europe
Pacific
Israel
etc, etc.

So, many different theaters in which a Sherman can be modeled.
Then, all the nations that used it.
Then, versions:
M4
M4A1
M4A2
M4A3
M4A4
M4 Composite

76mm versions, Fireflies, dry stowage, wet stowage, VVSS, HVSS, recovery versions, basis of Tank Destroyers, engineer vehicles, etc. etc. etc.

Sort of like the F4 Phantom jet or some other planes, the Sherman can just do a little bit of everything. What's not to like?
