His series on M3/M4 suspensions in MMiR and the Ampersand book "Modelling the Sherman" were the catalyst for a Renaissance for the Sherman. He showed what kind of research, and the resulting references, were possible.

The side by side comparisons of hull plates, engine decks, and bogies, suddenly made Shermaholics want more detailed information.

D.P. Dyer's MilMod series on the Fireflies and the Sherman turrets complemented Stansell's work. It also made more people aware of the solid research work Mr Dyer had been doing in the older niche publications like AFV-G2.

On the internet, a couple of engineering types, Mike Canaday and Kurt Laughlin brought a great deal of research and an insistance on utilizing correct part numbers and official terminology to the Sherman in an effort to get a handle on the growing list of Sherman whatchamacallits and thingamabobs.

Hanno Spoelstra's "Sherman Register", Steve Zaloga's books on the Sherman....the list grows and grows...

But I am still blaming it on Stansell.
