The three one piece housings are all at the WWII Vehicle Museum in Hubbard,
OH. The one in the upper right is P/N E4186, S/N 8207-882 and was cast by
Continental Foundry & Machine at their Chicago Works. The two lower ones
are both P/N E8543, i.e., the same interchangeable part. On the left is S/N
C4316 as cast by American Steel Foundries' Granite City plant while the one
on the right is S/N 663 cast by Scullin Steel. On my visit out there on
March 29th of this year, I measured the periphery of the casting between the
upper and lower bolt strips, both over the final drive bulges and at the
center. The distance over the bulges was the same (within 1/8-inch) for
both E8543 while the E4186 was 2-1/2 inches shorter. Over the centers the
E4186 was shortest, S/N 663 was 6-5/8 inches longer, while S/N C4316 was
another 7/8 inches longer still. You'll note, however, that the captions
describe S/N 663 as being "much sharper" than S/N C4316 when - if anything -
the opposite is true. (FYI, the caption is wrong in that the vehicle is not
an M10 but an M7B1. Note the grouser box on the glacis.)

Granted, there are differences in the lug arrangements, but that is not what
people are talking about.

Yes, there is a whole section there. However, if you compare the
cross-sections on page 77, you'll see far greater differences in the
peripheral lengths than the dimensions indicate. (The periphery is around
74 inches. The variations in E8543 castings described above amount to only
a 1.1% difference. With a difference that small, one can't say that it
simply isn't just the result of different foundries making the same part.)

The designation system used there is completely spurious. The chart is also
a bit goofy: On one hand it includes variations that have nothing to do with
the housings while simultaneously omitting some that do.

> Solid proof.

Well, that is what I'm trying to get. That's why I wanted to know the
locations of some of these allegedly "different" parts so I can determine if
they are real profile differences or misinterpretations of shadows. So far,
no beak differences to speak of. . .
