Hi Tim

I once read about such a ruse in one book on the Bulge. It claimed the US
troops responded at a tactical level by assembling a group of US troops of
whom a large number spoke German (all found in that division quite a
contrast to the German's considerable effort to find English speakers) and
ahving them approach the German lines accompanied by some Shermans, hoping
the Germans would be fooled by the German conversation. From recollection
it gave them a small advantage in what became a firefight.

Cheers

Neville
