Hi Ken
Well, we have some answers at last!
I looked over the AFVInteriors site, and got lots of images of M3 and M3A1 interiors. Yesterday I sat down with the instruction book and some of the interior drawings I printed out.
The interior for the kits is grossly "underprovisioned". There is a lot of stuff missing. From the interior sketches, it appears the central items of the hull interior are the correct shape overall. It looks like a pad of some kind needs to be added to bring it up to what's in the drawings. There is a lot of stuff on the turret and hull interior walls
that is not in the kit. Wires, equipment, sidearm, ammo etc. The ammo stowage is the wrong shape. Academy has us put the radio in the wrong place for a Honey. The list goes on.
I don't know how accurate the diagrams are compared to actual use, but I bet they are closer than the kit stuff. I will be adding some stuff to the interior walls, repositioning the radio, building new ammo storage and of course omitting the turret basket and fittings. Once I'm moved in to our new house, and I can get at my Ultracast figures I'll be
seeing how much interior detail is visible once the crew is in place.
I have one question, without the turret basket, did the gunner and commander run around in circles with the turret? And when the commander popped his head out of the cupola, where would he stand?
The gif files were too big to attach.
