Why not? Guessing is not the best way to do this. Since you are not basing your Tiger I on a photo or written description, any series of three numbers starting with 1-3, second number 0-3, and third number 0-4 would
get you in the ballpark without covering all the possible bases. Some units used black or red with white outline numbers which are available on most decal sheets.
However, each unit that used the Tiger I tended to use a somewhat specific style of numbers, series of colors to represent sub units, or sizes of numbers. Some used white or black outlines only. Some used letters in
place of the first number. Some used Roman numerals. Some applied the numbers with stencils, and others were more freehanded in application. Some Tiger Is never got numbers before they were blasted by Soviet
opponents.
What you really should do is begin to invest in some good research materials and photo books about the kinds of armor you enjoy building. If this is too expensive right now, do a web search on "Schwere
Panzerabteilung" or "Tiger tanks" to start getting more info. Look through past posts to Track-Link for hints about other sites. Look for AFV News or other armor related web sites.
Get ahead of the game by researching what you're going to build before you assemble and paint it - some of the Tiger I units had rather distinctive camouflage schemes while others did not use much camouflage
overpainting at all. Some used zimmerrit coatings while some did not, and some started out without it and added it later, and some later discontinued its use while others carried it to the very end. Some units removed
or added equipment on their Tiger Is. There are always possibilities, as Spock will say.
You'll drive many armor modelers crazy if you just put any old set of numbers on a generic Tiger I that you've painted in whatever camouflage you like. That's not how most of us play this game.
Best of luck in your modeling efforts,
