Hi Cristophe,
I haven't seen them on wartime pics, but they are very frequent on
restored Dukws.
I guess this was a late-war or post-war modification.
Have you also noticed there are two kinds of engine hoods? One with
three ribs, and one with two ribs and a raised
part on the rear of the hood (air scoop?), which is included in the
Italeri kit. Again, the one with three ribs is seen on restored
examples, but I haven't seen a wartime pic of this variation yet.
