J.P.,
I've heard it said by many that the Academy Tiger I is the best one on the
market. That being said, I know that the Tamiya Tiger Is are all nice as
well. DML doesn't make one and Italeri's can be made into a nice model, but
it isn't as nice as either Tamiya or Academy.
The anti-mine coating is called zimmerit and would have been on all Tigers
built from mid 1943 till September 1944, but since you are looking to do an
early Tiger I painted in Panzer grey you would be fine to not use zimmerit.
I'm pretty sure those stripes are kill marks (i.e. number of enemy tanks the
crew destroyed).
HTH,

1/35 scale Tiger 1, Tamiya, DML, Academy? Preferably an early version
without the anti mine coating (Zimerit?). I'm looking to do one in dark gray
camo with the black and white stripes on the barrel; sorry I don't know what
unit it's with. BTW what are those stripes? Some kind of measurement?
Anyway, I've got the Academy kit with the interior detail which I'm doing in
the desert yellow camo, Nice kit but I was just wondering if there are
better kits out there as this one is pretty pricey and one Tiger with all
that detail is enough.
