| Subject: | M4A1 Dozer Markings at Operation Cobra | |
| Date: | Sep 3, 2002 |
| From: | Harald Haensel | |
I seek information around a M4A1 Dozer to show a tank of the 70 th Battalion at operation Cobra correctly. Does someone know Vehicle registration numbers, unit markings, nicknames etc. for a suitable vehicle? Where were the markings attached at the vehicle. In the Concord paperback " The Sherman at War 2 " is a picture from a M4 Dozer. This tank should belong to Co. A . One the left hull ( right on the additional armorplate )of the vehicle is a big number painted ( 6. ). Color might be red with white surrounding. The tank's name is Apache. I've heared, this was a common practise. The tank names were given beginning with the first letter according to the Company they belonged to. At the end of the left hull, the registration number is visible and left of the additional armor plate are the shipping marks painted. What was indicated there? Unit markings, often painted to the Dozer blade or stars are not visible.
Can someone help me in this case? |
