Hi, I received an answer from the model builder and I wanted to share it with anyone interested.
"The information I got on this varient of the M8 was obtained by conversation witness between two WWII vets in a model store in Clearwater Florida. One of the vets pointed to the Tamiya kit, and explained he been a member of the 2nd Calvary Reconnaissance Group, which was the spearhead of Pattons spearhead, the XII Corps.
The vet explained his M8 was one of a handful "field fitted" with a high velocity 75mm gun of British design, the Mark-2, also used in on the Cromwell. The idea was NOT to fight Panther and Tiger tanks! It was to provide rapid, direct and accurate fire on Nazi pillboxes and strong points--with success". |
