As others have posted, it's all about personal preference.

To me, my deciding factors are: "Do I plan to build or buy the same kit in my lifetime?" and "How much do I LIKE the model?" Another one is: "How much did this model cost?"

If I wanted to buy another one, then OK, I may wish to forgo accuracy and details because I can always improve the next one via more research.

And if I really LIKE the model so much, then yes, the time I invested will pay off.

If my model cost me $150, sure I'm going to do research for I surely don't wish to spend $150 on the same kit again! But if the kit is $18, eh, it could pass with a few accuracy errors...no use doing so much research to make an $18 kit into a $100 kit.

So if I DON'T wish to buy the same kit over again, then the time invested in it is OK because you don't plan to repeat the research process over again.

See? All personal preference.

Hope this helps,
Peter
