4th Armoured Bgde had a few Sherman II (75mm) in Sicily, though the AFV returns for Oct 1943 show just 6 Sherman II, along with 199 Sherman III.

I think you're right that the IIA in the Chamberlain and Ellis book is in Italy. It sports a pennant logo which I believe is that used by the Mechanical Weapons Experimental Establishment, run by 8th Army. This logo appears on a number of vehicles on trial, including the Sherman IC mislabelled as a IVC on the same page of the book, as well as early Octopus (Ark) tanks.
