Hi Brian, In my opinion you are in the company of a very honorable man. I whole heartidly agree with Neville on the way's to help find this man's unit.
...I would also like to help and POSSIBLY we can even get you some W.W.II photo's of his unit in action. Another tip would be to see if you can find out what the unit INSIGNIA was. I did do some searching on the most obvious, which would be the Wehrmacht Heer ( German Armed Forces, Army )214.Infanterie Div. They did have a 214.Panzerjager Battalion, but this would have been "armored Tank Destroyer's vehicles." I really would like to help you and am eager to help this aging veteran regain some of his military past ( if that's what he wants ? ). You can also email me if you wish. Most important to ask his daughter to get the Division # and if it was Heer ( Army ) Luftwaffe, or Waffen SS branch of service. We can take it from there.
