All 17 pdr (and 20 pdr, for that matter) ammo was single piece with the
case firmly attached to the shell/shot. The two piece ammo entered
British tanks with the use of the American 120mm gun on the Conq. the
105mm L7 is single piece and then the 120mm of the Chieftain went back
to separate loading. I'm not sure about the Challenger 2, but the M1A1
and the Leo 2 both have single piece ammo.
