Ryan,
I agre with the above posts, but here are a few more ideas.
Assuming that you are using the Tamiya 251 D, the paint schemes on the box
art and side panels include some good indicative schemes.
The men in the Tamiya 251/1D box art are in a Waffen SS uniform typical of
Normandy.
Dragon's box art by Ron Volstrad, would be as a good a color ref as you will
find for WWII German figures. Dragon's web site has many of these
illustrations. Look for the ones with 1944 in the titles.
