The StuG IV barrel is the same as the StuG III G mid-late and both models
had variance in the type of muzzle break fitted, with some breaks having a
higher profile than others, hence there is the possibility that the thinness
you refer to is caused by the photo and your kit having diffenet muzzle
breaks. As I don't model 1/72 I can't comment on the kit
My review http://www.track-link.net/reviews/k569 shows the different types
of break used.
In Achtung Panzer a 1/35 StuG IV had 3mm external diameter barrel at the
break end (equates to approx 1.458 mm in 1/72) and 3.5mm at mantlet (1.70 mm
in 1/72)

littlt too thin with respect to the size of the muzzle brake. Does anyone
know the external diameter (in mm) of the barrel? What I am trying to do is
to use find some plastic rod to replace the kit barrel, and probably use the
kit muzzle brake with it. Any suggestions are welcome.
