Roberto,
I did an article for Fine Scale Modeler several years ago on what was needed. This was long before the turned barrels, resin pieces and photo-etched.
Main things you would probably want to change are:
1. Replace the barrel since it is sectioned and should not be. Jordi Rubio, Elefant and others have really nice turned barrels.
2. Replace the idlers and road wheels. The kit has open spoked wheels which probably would not appear on a late war Sherman unless the tank had them replaced in the field. Italaerei's M4A3 w/ calliope or M4 marines Shermans have the pressed stell wheels and idlers that have details on both sides. There numerous resin companies that have the proper resin wheels.
3.Tracks should be replaced. The kit has the T51 tracks without chevrons which are early war tracks. There are several replacement tracks available from RHPS, Modelkasten, Fruilmodel and I believe AFV Club. Tamiya's M4 Sherman tracks are also quite usable.
Other than those the kit is quite passable. A photo-eyched set from On-The-Mark, Aber or Edaurds would also help. Considering the age of the kit it is actually quite good.
