Actually I'm pretty sure we did not operate any Cromwells. The RCA
(Royal Canadian Artillery) did operate some Centaur IVs in the SP close
support role, but only for a very short while in Normandy.
The Cromwell was to be used in the Recce regiments of Armoured divisions
and the only two regiments that fit that description are the South
Albertas and the Governor General's Horse Guards ( aka, the GGHG, Goo
Goo Hoo Goos, and Gods Gift to Homely (Horny) Girls). Both were equipped
with Shermans (and Stuarts and such, of course). No Cromwells.
My copy of the RCAC history makes no mention of them either.
The "well known" caption is in error.
