Green is still the common European color for many safety items. On the
other hand, a friend of Ukrainian heritage tells me that he is sure that
Soviet-era fire extngshrs were red as far back as he can remember - mid
40s. I don't disagree with him, but I do know that color memory is often
the opposite (color-wheel-wise) of reality, not unlike the parlor trick
of staring at a US flag in blue, yellow, and green and then looking at a
blank white wall and seeing the residual image in the correct colors.
