Muzzle brakes were introduced in 1942 and started to get to the troops
in the field in 1943. Depending upon the need of the unit or how fast
they wore out their old tubes, the units operated with mixed complements
of 25 pdrs, both with and without muzzle brakes, into late 1944.
By the summer of 1944 almost all 25 pdrs were fitted with the brakes.
