| Subject: | Never say never but: M4A1 question | |

I'm doing some research to confirm naterial published on the OnTheWay
sight regarding the Esci 1/72 M4A1.
The hull is a late, wet, large hatch type. If my research is correct, the
large hatches were introduced primarily to provide clearance for the
larger T-23 turret. Meaning the new hull was intended for the 76mm gun
turret.
So while you can never say never with Shermans would it be accurate to
state that an M4A1, late, wet, large hatch hull would not be found with a
75mm turret with the exception of the Shermans intended for DD conversion
since the 76mm barrel was to long for the screens. And that these were
very few? And that you would not expect to see such a configuration in
combat in any theater?
My primary refs from which I drew this conclusion were the Squadron in
Action and The Modellers Guide to the Sherman. I have several other books
on the subject but these two seemed to give the most data on the versions
with sufficient detail.
TIA
