Well, without actually repeating the "never say..." cliche, the composite M4 and M4A6 were large hatch dry stowage 75mm tanks too.
I think the large hatch M4A1 posted above was determined to be an ex-DD. Joe DeMarco looked at the photo in the book (rather than the scanned image) and noticed the DD idler. The lack of the front fender mount plate and other items point to an ex-DD as well. As for the M4A1 105mm, I still think that too many improbable events would have had to occur for that to have come about, but I suppose it's a possibility, as and such one cannot say "never".
