Hi George,
It's a great kit! DML simply has the best 1/35 T-34's around, and it's great to see them finally doing the 76mm gun tanks. The hull has the only really accurate T-34/76 upper deck. The turret assembly looks fussy -- a lotta highly complex shapes, but it all fits together perfectly. The turret contains basic gun breech detail (hard to avoid with that huge hatch. The only drawback (common to all DML T-34's) is molding the upper rear engine vent screen solid. This really needs to be cut out, mesh screen added, and the ventilation "slats" installed.
But the kit looks decent without this. The early ('40 and '41) T-34's didn't carry the patriotic slogans, nor the Red Flag insignia often found on later tanks, so the tanks look a little plain unless you do a careful weathering job.

The Model 1940 used the short (L-11) gun, and the rounded front mantlet. Not too many of these made, as the longer F-34 gun was introduced early in production (with the more familiar angle-front mantlet). DML is supposed to be releasing a Model 1941 (F-34 gun) in July '04 (I think) and have a Model 1943 scheduled for November '04 (release).

Aftermarket:
Mesh screen, and upper deck grilles available in Eduard and Aber p/e sets, along with the usual fiddly bits. These sets generally have some turret interior details. Aber also has a complete brass and p/e rear upper ventilation hatch.
Kit comes with welded turret, Armo has resin cast turret (with complete interior detail) which is quite nice. If you prefer the welded turret, Armo has one of these too -- also with interior detail.
If you suffer from AMS, Armo makes a resin replacement upper hull with all engine hatches / covers removable (and most hinged).
This is useful if you want to install Armo's gorgeous resin engine/tranny set.
Maquette has a good basic engine/tranny that's cheap, and sufficiently detailed for what's visible through the stock DML kit's positionable upper and rear engine hatches.
Tank Maker (now available from Tiger Model designs) has a usable T-34/76 interior set. However, this was designed for Tamiya T-34/76 Model 43, and will require some adapting to fit the DML hull. Additionally, you'll need to fabricate the fighting compartment interior section, because the TM part is completely unusable. Driver's compartment is ok, though.
Eduard has a p/e interior set that has some useful stuff, although it's designed for T-34-85.

Any of the DML T-34's are well worth the money, I just wish they make the 76mm versions a higher priority. Buy one!

Hope this helps

Paul
