Tuve,
I'll try and answer in order-

1)Go with Mike Starmers' advice- but remember you have the option of flat earth base colour and you've got cloud pattern and Mickey Mouse camoflage options.

2)As far as I can tell, the original Gardner colour on delivery to Scammell was bare metal or aluminium coloured paint, although I have seen examples with coloured barrels. Period photo's are a tricky source though, since LW engines had a hundred and one applications so there's no gaurentee that the engines photographed were destined for Pioneers. Safest bet (it's the option I have used) is a semi gloss bottle green. I've seen this colour peeping out from under many years worth of over painting on unrestored (ie still gainfully employed) Pioneers and it was the colour of choice on military engines from a lot of other manufacturers. My guess would be that sand colours were North Africa field applications and the silvers and greys were variations on the standard post war british engine colour- duck egg blue.

3)There's a great deal of variation in Pioneer headlights, the AA kit part is fine. Original equipment was a pair of large headlamps, but there are loads of photo's of all the Pioneer variants with various different combinations of lamps.

The review that Ray mentioned was posted by me- and I really would recommend you buy it before you build- the AA instructions don't really tell you enough to do the kit justice (in my opinion)and if you'd like, I can give you a bit more recommend reading and viewing- can't do scans I'm afraid, my machines on the fritz again. The image attached is my progress with the Scammell so far.
