USMC tanks were suplied from Army stocks, so the basic color was olive-drab. Vehicles might be repainted "Marine Green", with a bluish tint, but in general tanks were replaced after each campaign due to wear, so this color was not at all common.
Camouflage stripes were applied at small unit level - company or even platoon. Colors varied by campaign, with whatever the small unit people might fit the local terrain - from white on Roi-Namur to tan, red-brown, et cetera. There was some individualism; one particular officer, Lt Max English (C Company, 4th Tank Bn) always marked his turret with random splashes of tan, but he was the only one who did this.
The variability was so great that you really need to know which campaign and unit you want to model. |
