A little clarification: I have always wanted to mount an MRL directly to a Sherman hull, sans turret. I imagine something similar to the BM-8-24 or whatever the Soviets had in W.W. II. After several suggestions and websites via email, I discoverd that the M17 was nothing like that, but instead an MRL placed on top of the turret, almost like the Calliope but much more "modular" in appearance. The photo in the Concord book I referenced wasn't clear on that at all, and made it look like the MRL was placed directly onto the hull. To be completely and unambiguously fair, the photo is an "in action" type with the MRL firing, so you can't see much of the tank itself, much less the MRL.

So my quasi sci-fi idea is still very much in the what-if category, which, is a good thing for me anyway. Again, thanks to all for the suggestions and resource listing(s).

Steve
