The Tiger, Panther and other tanks had a wire or site in front of the forward looking vision block or periscope so the commander can quickly line up on a target and then the gunner can do the fine target aquisition.
The commander's seat always had him sitting to the front of the turret and there was usually an internal orientation system to tell where the turret was pointing and this wire could not be used to tell were the tank was pointed. |
