David, a question that might confirm this premise...

What was the degree range of vision (total) for the gunnery scope and for the vision blocks in the cupola. Is there enough space/distance around your Tiger still to take those measurements?

It might explain the 'rough gunsight' idea, assuming the gunnery scope has only a few degrees, and the vision blocks have what, over 60 degrees? (30+ left & right)

Just a guess...
