Yes, on the end you make your own opinion.
In many books it is just the same, they made opinions about the colors of turret numbers from LAH Tigers. If we believe in this opinions we have olive numbers in the 1.comp., red in the 2.comp. and blue with yellow outline in the 3.comp. If you study all photos from the LAH Tigers you notice that these opinions are to simple or to complicated.
What do we really know about the colors of the turret numbers ? We know the Tiger II #332 from 3.comp. of LAH (the Aberdeen one) had blue turret numbers(and someone had said yellow outlined).
The 3.comp. is a good example for the way of changes in the color of turret numbers. In early 44 the 3.comp. had plain white numbers(lot of photos around) later the comp. fill out the numbers in with blue color.
It is clearly to see if you compare the pics of the Tigers in early 44 with later pics in mid 44, that the just fill the numbers but donīt paint new ones. Where is the serius(logic) reason for the 3.comp. to outline the numbers again in yellow ? Blue numbers ok, but in my opinion they were oulined white.
How many colors the Abteilung need for all this complicating paintjobs on the numbers ? Red, mid red and light red, pink, light pink. blue, mid blue, light blue etc.etc.
Than yellow for the outlines in 3.comp.and maybe different shades of olive in the 1.comp. and what about the staff comp. yellow ?
BTW Paul, why should they paint #205 from the 2.comp. in the blue color from the 3.comp. ? Maybe they had a professional painter for her 45 Tigers.
Once again, it is confusing if you study all the photos from Tigers of LAH. There are different shades in the colors of the numbers and it is not only the quality of photos that mades the different. But i donīt believe that they gave themselves the pain to paint all this variants, it must be more simple here.
I know the tankers were proud of his Abteilung, Kompanie, Zug and tank and if they had time, they made it special. But in the field is only the number that really counts but not the color of the number.
Made your own opinion and show us something new :-)
I just finished my Tiger II #008 from staff comp.of sSSPzAbt.501 with turret numbers in dark yellow(cammo color).
Regards
