The following is from a post By Cran Smith on ML from 21/07/2000:

There is continuing debate over Barkmann's pz in Normandy, but I think on balance the conventional wisdom is that it was an ausf A. However, he did have an ausf G for the Ardennes. One hears that it was 401, although that may be an assumption based on his kp command. Photos of other SS Pz Rgt 2 in the Ardennes suggest no zimmerit, no mantlet chin or heater tower, late-'44 camo on primer base, and b/w numbers. Your most obvious problem will be with the mantlet, as you need one without chin or zimmerit, and have one with each.
