| Subject: | Careful: M5 or M5A1 Stuart? | |

If you really mean the M5, then I'm pretty sure that Commonwealth forces didn't use them (certainly not in any numbers). As the M3A3s were withdrawn from service in NW Europe in late 1944 they were replaced by M5A1 Stuart VIs. The original M5 was pretty rare in the US army at this point, indications are that some were brought out of the depots in late 1944/45 when stocks of the M5A1s started to dwindle. The M5s were re-issued as a stop-gap until supplies of the M24 could make up the diference.
If you actually meant the M5A1, then the other guys' comments apply. |
