Hi Chris,
I am currently building a very eraly Pz3J issued to 24 PzDiv.I don't consider Achtung Panzer as bible. I think the examples in the book are just commonly seen in the specified version of the vehicle. A good example is a photo on page 28 of The Panzerkampfwagen III at War, Concord. The photo shows a J with 50mm L/60 and early layout of armoured airintake cover, and another J with 50mm L/42 with flat engine hatches. Either follows the tool layout examples raised in AP book.
Except AP and the Concord books, other books I have are Ground Power No.084 , 085 and 087, which contain quite a few war time photos of Pz3s. The DAK early J can be found in 85. The 84 also has some early Js in Eastern front.
