Hi, Harry
The Finns did use logs for reinforcing side protection of some of their StuGs, but only for superstructure, not the lower hull like schurzen did.
SS StuG units in Karelia ? Never heard about it. The fine Finnish book on German armor in Finland (can't remember the title nor the author, I'm at work...)don't mention them.
I'll be glad to see pictures of this StuG.
