Hi Geoff,
I’m not Mr. Bodiam but I went ahead and checked my references and found only four photographs where tanks with this interesting winter camouflage were such as to allow the wheels to be clearly seen. All were equipped with a full set of rubber tired wheels.
Of course, this does not prove the negative case (i.e.; that none were equipped with steel wheels) but it does put the weight of evidence to the contrary.
As an aside, I received a fascinating photograph through Andreas Larka of a very early “Model ‘43” with this same camouflage. This particular tank apparently became R-155 in Finnish service.
