Hi Josh,

Yes, The gears are on the outside of the vertical ring you see in the pic. I think they face inward. The Panzer IV, "J" version had a manual turret control. So you may want to look into that. I have some pretty good drawings. Unfortunately, my scanner is out. I hope I helped. I am building a 1/6th, one sixth, (not 1/16) scale Panzer IV H/J right now. It's an all metal RC kit from England. I love the Panzer IV.
