The Encyclopedia of German Tanks of WWII by Doyle and Chamberlain is a pretty good book to have in your library if you can lay hands on it.
It really does a good job of covering the basics.You get several good clear photos of each type vehicle when at all possible.Some vehicles are pretty rare so the quality of a few shots is a bit lacking.
The sub types are covered and photos show the differences between the versions.Many foriegn vehicles in German use are covered as well as gun types, spaced armor etc.
As has been stated it is not an indepth look at each Ausf.,nor an indepth look at the main vehicle per se.It gives the modeler a good place to start, provides some recognition photos and has basic histories on production and combat use.
I find myself refering to it often when trying to get a idea of what some of the less popular and/or obscure vehicles looked like.
Obviously books on specific vehicles are going to do a better job with more technical data, but if you are just starting a library or have limited funding, its a very good volume to have on the shelf.
