The British Sherman designations were as follows:

US = UK

M4 = Sherman I
M4 composite = Sherman Hybrid I
M4A1 = Sherman II
M4A2 = Sherman III
M4A3 = Sherman IV (only a handful supplied for evaluation)
M4A4 = Sherman V

In addition, there were suffix's to denote different armament/suspensions

A = 76mm
B = 105mm
C = 17 pdr
Y = HVSS
