Subject:  What was the Allied strategy in Normandy?List thread.

Dear All

In the introduction to the Osprey Op. Cobra book written by Steve Zaloga it is stated that the allied strategy all along was for the breakout to come from the British side.

This was a surprise to me, I thought the original strategy was to pull the Germans to the British side to allow a breakout on the American side.

What do others think, was there:
(a) no strategy?
(b) everyone tries to breakout but in an uncoordinated way?
(c) The Americans hold the German attention whilst the British breakout?
(d) The British hold the German attention whilst the Americans breakout?

Let me know your views

Thanks

Andrew
